Dr. Roy Sonkin.jpgRoy H. Sonkin, DDS - Forensic Dentistry - The Tales that Teeth Tell!

This presentation will familiarize the audience with the need, role, and responsibility of the forensic odontologist. In both civil and criminal matters, the trained odontologist is often called upon to aid in the identification of unknowns, interpret bite marks, render an opinion in issues of negligence, matters of fraud, and child abuse.

The presentation will discuss the various definitions and responsibilities of the forensic odontologist and their relationship and interaction with police, fire, and judicial agencies. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of the forensic odontologist in mass disasters, ie. multiple fatality incidents. Mass disaster team organization and the process for identification of victims, will be reviewed and highlighted with information on recent incidents.

Through the use of video tape, computer graphics, and slides, this program will graphically depict many recent incidents in which the forensic odontologist is involved in some capacity. Recent multiple fatality victim identification incidents including American Airlines Flight 587, World Trade Center incidents will also be presented, as well as Huricaine Katrina and Rita.
